WhatsApp messaging
Espresso uses WhatsApp for one purpose: to help licensed financial advisers look after the clients they already have. This page says who Maya messages, why, how people agree to it, and how to stop it.
Who Maya is
Maya is an AI assistant, not a person, and she works for the adviser she is set up with. She says so when she introduces herself. She does not give financial advice. Anything that needs a person’s judgement goes to the adviser.
Who we message, and about what
- Advisers who have an Espresso account: setup and account messages, and alerts about their clients’ renewals, claims and documents.
- An adviser’s clients, only on that adviser’s behalf: answers to questions about their own policies, reminders before a premium or a renewal is due, and help with a claim (what to send, receiving the documents).
We do not send marketing or promotional messages, we do not message people who are not an adviser’s client or an adviser, and we do not sell or share numbers.
How people agree to it
- Advisers tick a separate box on the sign-up form to agree to receive WhatsApp messages from Espresso, through Maya, our AI assistant. We record when they agreed and which wording they saw.
- Clients are added by their adviser, who has told them that Maya is an AI assistant and has their agreement to be messaged. Our terms make the adviser responsible for that, and a client can also simply decline or stop at any time.
How to stop
Anyone can stop the messages at any time, by any of these:
- email hello@espresso.insure with the number you were messaged on;
- block the number in WhatsApp;
- tell your adviser.
We will stop messaging that number and let the adviser know. Asking to stop is never held against anyone.
Reaching a person
Every conversation belongs to an adviser, who can read it and reply themselves at any time. To reach us, email hello@espresso.insure or call +65 8126 7212. See our contact page.
What happens to the messages
Messages travel through the WhatsApp Business Platform, run by Meta. We keep a copy in our database so the adviser can see the conversation, and some of the content is processed by AI service providers so that Maya can reply. Read how, and for how long, in our Privacy Policy.
Keeping it fair
To protect people from unwanted messages, we limit how many messages any one number can send in an hour and each adviser can send in a day, and we follow the WhatsApp Business Messaging Policy and the WhatsApp Business Platform terms.
